Most of us came out of the pandemic knowing that the world had changed, but not entirely sure how. The reality is that the world had already shifted well before 2020; our eyes were opened to it within the crucible of crisis. Today, more people find purpose, love, community, work, and identity through their digital experiences. The existence of the internet is the single most transformative force in culture and human lived experience in our lifetimes. It should be no surprise that each generation interacts with it and operates within it a bit differently. As the world becomes increasingly hybrid, it’s important for our churches to engage with the digital world in the redemptive calling of Jesus’ Kingdom.
The digital expression of the church is not an abandonment of the church but a rediscovery of the simple reality that the church was never about our buildings or our services to begin with.

Mark and his wife, Jenn, live with their two daughters north of Pittsburgh. After over a decade serving at a local church, they stepped away to plant Lux Digital Church, a fully digital church in the online gaming community. Lux exists entirely online between Twitch and Discord, seeking to reach people who would rather risk hell than step back through the doors of a traditional church. With hundreds of people who have begun to call Lux home, they aim to change the way the church thinks about online spaces and the people that inhabit them.
Mark is an all-around nerd who loves MMOs, tabletop RPGs, hobby boarding, and is currently obsessed with Star Wars Unlimited, a new card game by Fantasy Flight.
