Computers are translating the literal Word of God. Are we okay with this?
Artificial intelligence has so many uses in today’s world. One of the more useful applications, and arguably one of the more controversial, is Bible translation. That’s right, AI is being used to translate the Bible into new languages. Rather than the man-made process that takes … well, decades, computers can shorten that decades-long process to mere months.
Is this a good idea? What does the process look like? What does quality control look like? All of these are great questions to ask Dan Whitenack, a data scientist with SIL International. SIL, among other things, is working to translate the Bible into languages that do not have their own Scriptures, and they’re using artificial intelligence to do it.
