The Ethics Surrounding Artificial Intelligence and the Church

July 13, 2022 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm EDT

As any good science fiction movie will tell you, artificial intelligence is a bad thing. Machines in the Matrix movies, the Terminators … even the helpful robots in I, Robot can be manipulated to be harmful. But are these stories foreshadowing reality?

Artificial intelligence is here, and we, the Church, have to address it. As in every organizational structure, artificial intelligence can offer incredible benefits to the Church. Ethically, should the Church utilize this technology? Can AI be used for good, or are its implications too nefarious for use in the Church?

Let’s dive into these ethical questions in a conversation with Quentin McGrath, a strong Christian who has spent over 20 years as Deloitte’s chief information officer and the most senior member of their Global Technology Executive Team. He is also currently pursuing a doctorate in AI and ethics, so this is a great opportunity to explore the good and the bad of artificial intelligence.

Explore and understand the future of the metaverse church. We’ll examine aspects of the meta mission field, the Church in the metaverse, even what discipleship and multiplication can look like in the metaverse. Through the interviews hosted on Metaverse Church NEXT, we’ll address the technical, theological, and tactical approaches that churches are wrestling with today in virtual reality, augmented reality, and even innovation in general. Metaverse Church NEXT broadcasts Wednesday, 12:30 p.m. ET.
