Project: Leadership Pathway
Leader: Dave Miller
Website: leadershippathway.org
Our purpose is to help churches find, support and develop the next generation of church leaders through residency and coaching.
Our big idea is to help current church leaders learn how to coach young leaders so they do not exit ministry in the first couple of years. We call this a “residency” as that is the language that people understand, but really is about actually learning how to have developmental conversations to help leaders move forward. We have now launched over 100 residencies. We currently have over four dozen in process, 62 have completed and been hired, and one has failed.
Our approach is one of trying to combat the staffing crisis for local churches and helping them grow what they need for a sustainable pipeline of leaders.
Our primary customer is a senior leader at a church of about 1,000. We picture a young executive pastor who is new, needs help, and is leading a place of best practices. This church is still “on its way up” ; it is growing, launching a campus, or potentially building a first facility. There are approximately a dozen employees at this church. They all are new, in over their heads (in a good way!). They are our heroes (and I don’t mean in just the Donald Miller way).
We work with churches as small as 200 and as large as 20,000.
We work with churches that can be considered uptight as well as churches that could be considered unhinged and everything in between.
Some churches we work with have a formal seminary in their building, and others are just beginning this process of thinking about the next generation.
