2023-2024 Multipliers Learning Community
The Back Story

The Back Story

INTRODUCTION
At Exponential, we are passionate about Kingdom multiplication. We are working to inspire and equip leaders to change the primary metrics of success in the Church from addition to multiplication, and from accumulation to releasing. Currently only a small percentage of churches—in the single digits—are reproducing and hardly any in our western context are multiplying. Our mission is to make reproduction and multiplication the norm by seeing more than 10% of churches reproducing or multiplying (and eventually to a “tipping point” of 16%). The Multipliers Learning Communities were created to help forward-thinking leaders engage in peer-to-peer learning about the future of the church. Participating leaders have tasted success in the context of prevailing metrics. However, these leaders are experiencing a “holy discontent” that is partially rooted in the reality that most of the current methods and measures in the U.S. church are not producing the outcomes Jesus intended. These leaders are the pioneers and map-makers of the healthy, reproducing faith communities of the future. Over 550 leaders have al-ready participated in Multipliers Learning Communities with Exponential. Level 5 leaders…look toward the future, three or four generations of churches ahead of the church they currently pastor. This kind of forward thinking keeps these leaders central to the process of personally making disciples who will make disciples that can then disciple and multiply others. THE BACK STORY

Known as “Future Travelers,” Exponential’s original Learning Community was birthed from a journey of friends to discover what God was saying, and to understand what it meant for them and the churches they were leading. Guided by Alan Hirsch, this inaugural group met several times to learn together and wrestle with the implications. Because of this journey, each of these churches has initiated transformative changes and practices. Many other senior pastors joined this transformational journey. Then, Future Travelers opened up to include denominational and network leaders, who, in turn, invited their best and brightest to participate in this engaging learning experience. Fueled by the strong feedback from past alumni, Exponential is continuing to offer learning communities to help other leaders in their multiplication journey.

The Journey

The Journey

The Exponential Learning Communities create an innovative journey of exploration, helping participants shift their paradigms and act toward greater Kingdom impact. The content is strategically and deliberately designed to challenge paradigms and help participants build a strong foundation for action. The Learning Community journey consists of three separate gatherings in three different cities over an 8-month period (from Fall 2022 to Spring 2023). The journey combines the relational, experiential and informational components required for transformation. Each of the three gatherings consists of a day and a half of teaching, discussion, breakouts and practical application including:

  • Innovative teaching by recognized national leaders.
  • Peer-to-peer, small group learning environments designed to be an intimate, living room experience.
  • Seasoned Level 4 and 5 leaders sharing their experiences in implementation, including lessons learned.

The journey is designed to help leaders guide their church to the next level of multiplication. The gatherings are highly relational and interactive. Most participants say that the relational aspect of the journey alone, including the fellowship with like-minded leaders and building of relationships with new friends, makes the experience worthwhile. The journey will also include exclusive live webcasts from nationally recognized leaders, many of whom have been speakers on the Exponential main stage.

Curriculum

Curriculum

The 7-month journey will focus on the principles and practices of healthy church multiplication. The primary reference material is from the book Multipliers: Leading Beyond Addition. This book from Exponential includes core materials from our multiplication themes including Spark: Creating a Culture of Multiplication, Becoming a Level Five Multiplying Church, Dream Big, Plan Smart: Finding Your Pathway to Level Five Multiplication, and HeroMaker.

The learning journey for the 3 meetings is organized around Exponential’s 3 Dimensions of Multiplication: disciple-making, mobilization, and capacity building. We will unapologetically focus on the cause of church multiplication. The models and approaches of the future will be different than the traditions of the past.

This journey IS NOT about teaching leaders how to do old (or even existing) models better. This journey is about collaborative, peer-to-peer learning to discover the future together.

Learning Community attendees build lasting connections with fellow church multipliers while gaining the innovative ideas that will lead to implementing an action plan in their local context.

It was important to me to meet like-minded people who are trying to reimagine what the church can be and do. What we’ve realized after going through this learning community experience is that we could do so much more in mobilizing people to be everyday missionaries wherever they are.

Bringing so many different leaders from different ministries and churches together in one room...you start seeing things in a new light. Now I’m not just thinking how many can we reach here within Long Beach. My mindset has changed where now I’m thinking multiplication. I loved the collaboration and the conversation.
