Born in the central valley town of Bakersfield, CA, Dave began following Jesus during his junior year of high school. In 1997, he started working in vocational ministry and was ordained at the age of 21 as a youth pastor.
After serving in ministry for about 10 years (1997-2007), Dave felt called by God to plant a church. In 2007, he and his wife Ashley moved to Carpinteria, CA to begin the process of planting with the Reality Family of Churches. They later heard God’s invitation to move to San Francisco, where, after a year of prayer meetings, the first Reality SF service was held on January 10, 2010.
As an elder, Dave helps shape the direction of the church, ensuring that Reality SF provides a space where people can explore faith in Christ and discover their role in God’s renewal. He also mentors emerging church leaders through Searock, an organization he co-founded.
In addition to his pastoral work, Dave is the author of The Truest Thing About You, a book that reflects the lessons he learned in his early years at Reality SF. He lives in the city with his wife Ashley, whom he met in high school, and their three children, Juniper, Nowen, and Valor.

Accelerating Multisite: Trends from Groundbreaking Research to Help Your Church Multiply – Hosted by Sean Morgan & Jim Tomberlin
Multisite strategies have become proven models for church reproduction that have transformed the church landscape across America. Over 2,000 multisite churches have reproduced themselves in nearly 10,000 locations nationwide. Multisite thinking has also helped to unleash the reproductive DNA inherent in every local church–igniting a new energy for birthing new churches and it’s not slowing down. More than half of all multisite churches also plant churches.
Over the past 25 years, multisiting went from a crazy idea to a credible strategy for reproducing outward focused, gospel-centered, disciple-making churches. It is now standing on the verge of its finest hour. Today, more than 500 multisite churches have 4 or more geographical locations, and more than 50 of those multisite churches have 10 or more locations.
In 2025-2026, Warren Bird and Jim Tomberlin, in partnership with Sean Morgan and The Ascent Leader, embarked on the most extensive research of the multisite church movement in history. They created a cohort of 27 front-runner multisite churches averaging 10 locations each to assess their strengths, weaknesses, and challenges. Their interaction produced the “Multisite Unpacked: Trends, Tactics, and Tomorrow”” survey. The survey findings resulted in the most comprehensive report ever assembled on multisite churches across all sizes and models with over 1,000 churches participating.
Join Jim Tomberlin, with Sean Morgan, as they share fresh off-the-press the latest and greatest on the multisite church movement and how multisite can accelerate church multiplication over the next decade–in churches like yours.
